Impressive Large Decorative Authentic Antique Lithograph Print depicting various Ancient Egyptian Temple Column styles from the historically influential Large Folio publication The Grammar of Ornament by Owen Jones, 1st Edition, 1856. Wikipedia describes him as "one of the most infuential design theorists of the Nineteenth Century". A must have for the serious Egyptophile! Whereas Greco-Roman columns exist in three basic styles, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian, the Ancient Egyptians had multiple different column types including complex composite capitals based on the Lotus and Papyrus plants, which would have been brightly painted originally.
Owen Jones Grammar of Ornament, published in 1856, was a seminal work in gathering together all the different individual styles and types of ancient artworks such as these Egyptian columns and showing them as they would originally have been brightly painted. This large poster size print (12 x 18) has been professionally mounted using acid free mount-board ready for framing.
Before founding Ihnasiyah Gallery, my professional experience was largely in the London Antiquarian Print Trade where I worked for Michael Finney's Antiquarian Books and Prints at his Museum Street Gallery opposite the British Museum in Bloomsbury, London, UK before moving to the print department of Henry Sotheran Ltd.
