The Gallic Hercules as deity of Eloquence, with the hero seated at centre, wearing the lion skin and holding the club; threads are coming out of his mouth, and they are attached to the ears of several men seated on either side, signifying he has captured their attention by his eloquence; after a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael, now to his school. 1729/64 Aquatint on etched lines, printed in one shade of brown.
This piece is in very good condition for its age. It has some pencil markings on the back and tape marks on the back corners.Please view the pictures and Thanks for Looking. This is a reply received from C&J Goodfriend Drawings and Prints. You should only be sure that the measurements, to the plate mark, are approximately 284 mm. The print is called Hercule Gaulois ou. L'Eloquence and is after.
