We offer for your consideration the Bronze reproduction of a classic Roman stone sculpture. Indeed this piece was inspired by a Classic Roman marble sculpture. The piece has come to be known as "Girl playing Astragaloi" an ancient game we have come to know in modern times as "Jacks".

The motif of the seated young girl dates back to the late Hellenistic model, which in the Roman version was supplemented by the game gesture. Bronze homage to the original roman sculpt. The sculpture came to us through an estate sale. The casting is believed to be the work of a French foundry sometime in the late 1800s. On the bottom we found a stamp that is a "CH" followed by a five pointed Star.

As of yet we have been unable to identify the foundry. There is some evidence of a name plaque that was once mounted at the rear left of the sculpts base, but all that remains are the two mount points. The casting is beautiful, the detail on the hands and feet hold up very well, as does the surface of the casting. The drape and folds of the garment have a wonderful natural flow. The surface of the sculpt show no evidence of pitting or voids. The patina is deep and dark almost black in some areas. This sculpt is approximately 11 1/2 inches tall, and approximately 11 inches wide.

This sculpt weighs approximately 14 pounds. If you are a collector of Classic Roman sculpture, this beautiful recreation in Bronze will be a treasured addition to your collection.
